Chinese New YearCelebrate "Year of the Pig" At Viking Commons!
February 14th, 2007 -- Students can usher in Chinese New Year with lantern-making, calligraphy lessons, entertainment, and a specially prepared meal at Viking Commons on Thursday, February 22. The dinner party, planned by north campus Resident Hall Assistants, will begin at 5:15 and end at 6:45 pm. Asian Flank Steak with Fried Chinese Noodles and Peppers, Pot Stickers and Dim Sum with Ginger Sauce, Hunan Salad, Hot and Sour Soup, Egg Drop Soup, Stir Fried Broccoli Hong Kong Style, Bean Salad, and more round out the tasty menu. Diners can try their hand at arts and crafts, view a Chinese dance performance, and learn about study abroad, the Zodiac and Chinese New Year traditions. The cost of the special dinner is $10.35 and payment is accepted in the form of a meal plan, Flex Points, Munch Money, cash or credit card. Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, begins on the first day of the new year containing a new moon, and ends 14 days later. It is also the time of the largest human migration, when Chinese all around the world travel home to celebrate with their families. According to the Chinese calendar, each year is represented by one of 12 animals. People born in the "Year of the Pig" are said to have fun, enlightening personalities, good manners, and pure hearts.
