If you've already applied, thank you! We plan to send out hiring notification/confirmation emails to all applicants by August 29th, for all who've applied by the deadline. IF YOU'RE ALREADY EMPLOYED BY Sodexo/WWU Dining Services AND PLAN TO RETURN FOR FALL...
If you already work for University Dining Services and plan to return for fall quarter, all you need to do is make sure you have a current Food Handlers Card (get it renewed if it has expired) and then show up at Student Employment Orientation Day on Saturday, September 20th, at 7:30am. If you did not sign-up on the returning student employee sheet at your unit at the end of spring quarter, please do contact your unit manager now to let them know that you intend to return. All returning students will be entered to win a drawing for a $250 Bookstore Gift Card.

*Two drawings will be conducted for two $250 Bookstore Gift Cards. One drawing for new applicants and one drawing for returning student employees. In order to receive the Gift Card, employees must submit their application on time, must be present at Student Employment Day and must continue to work for University Dining Services through at least October 31st.

About University Dining Services
University Dining Services is now hiring student workers for Fall 2008. Positions are available in resident dining halls, catering and on-campus cafés & markets. The types of jobs include caterer, cook, cook assistant, driver, barista/cashier, cashier, dining room attendant, food servers and more. We employ over 500 student staff and every member of the team is a critical part of our success.
Working for University Dining Services at Western provides valuable experience to complement your education. Wages & Merit Increases
Entry-level student employees will start at $8.25/hour to $8.50/hour. The starting wage varies depending on the type of location you work at; starting wage for retail kitchen, cafes and markets is $8.25/hour, while starting wage for resident dining halls and catering is $8.50/hour. Students can expect to receive a performance review with the potential for a merit increase at the end of fall quarter and thereafter on an annual basis.

An application packet (PDF) can be downloaded. Please print out the PDF and fill out all the required information. We will also be accepting applications and answering questions during Summer Start; look for our “Jobs” table inside the Viking Commons at meal times.
Your completed application packet must be received (by mail or drop off) by Wednesday, August 27. Students who complete an application and are offered a position will be required to attend Student Employment Day Orientation on Saturday, September 20 at WWU. Those who plan will be living on campus should register for early move-in to attend this orientation, and we’ll cover the early move-in fees provided you attend Student Employment Day and continue to work for us through fall quarter.
Food and Beverage Worker's Card
It's important to know that when you come to work for University Dining Services you must have a current Washington State Food and Beverage Service Worker’s Card. In accordance with Washington State Health Department regulations and Sodexo company policy, every University Dining Services employee must have a copy of a valid Washington State Food Worker's card at their place of employment.
You can obtain or renew a card through any Washington State County Health Department or at our special on-campus testing session on Friday, September 19. As a courtesy to our new hires, we plan to offer on-campus testing at Ridgeway Commons at 1:30pm on Friday, September 19.
- The cost for the exam is $10 (cash only). You must bring this payment with you to the test.
- To prepare for the exam, review the Food Worker Manual (.pdf), which can be downloaded for free.
Student Employment Day - Save the Date! Saturday, September 20
The day will start with check-in at 7:30 am at the WWU Performing Arts Center plaza. Next, the management team will present an orientation and training session inside the Performing Arts Center in which we’ll discuss our goals, philosophies and operations with you. A variety of short training presentations will inform you of some of the important aspects of high quality food, safety and customer service. You will end the day with a unit-specific orientation and shift scheduling session. Depending on the length of your unit-specific meeting, you should be finished by 4:00pm.
A snack break will be provided mid-morning and we will also provide you with lunch at approximately 1p.m. when you leave the PAC and go to your unit-specific meetings.
