The Office of University Residences welcomes you to Western Washington University and the University Residences system. Founded in 1893 as a state normal school, Western Washington University has grown from a small teachers' college to a comprehensive regional university. The 190-acre campus overlooks Bellingham from the west slope of Sehome Hill, a city arboretum. From the Performing Arts Center Plaza, guests can watch sunsets over Bellingham Bay, enjoy the splendor of the Canadian coastal range and ponder the quiet beauty of the San Juan Islands. Residential Services * Conference and Guest Housing during the academic year is located in the Birnam Wood Apartments. During the summer, conferences are held throughout campus, including Fairhaven, Birnam Wood Apartments, Nash, and Edens South.
